24/1/10 : Dinner at Istanbul

Ha, yes it was all in a blurrrr. The resto has quite a nice decor, and the meat dishes really stand out!! Apart from that the service was poor, bread was cold, and the baklava was absolutely AWFUL!!! I really enjoyed my Lamb Shanks dish though, thought it was very nicely cooked and the potato and the mushrooms were such delightful compliments to the lamb. Only if the tenderness of the meat were consistent throughout the whole plate, the dish really would have been one of my favourites of this year...

24/1/10: Brunch at Lido

After having a stroll at the Wellington City Art Gallery we decided to have brunch at Lido instead of just nibbling at the gay party right outside of the gallery, the civic square. It wasn't the first time we ate there so all seemed a bit familiar. The place was packed as usual and the breakfast menu wasn't that exhausting (we were too early for the brunch actually) so anyways. My Wellington usual is French Toast so I had that ordered, and of course, a glass of spirulina smoothies to green my body first.. The green drink was okay, tasted like "Charlie's" with an extra spoonful of spirulina powder, was actually a bit too strong and didn't work so well with the acidic juice ><
CK had Eggs Benedict with smoked salmon on toasted English muffins, apparently wasn't great. Surly it's not one of those great moment of a successful mix of warm and cold, and there was definitely not much or a variety of textures in this one.
Then my french toast with fresh fruit and berry coulis...
The twisted face said it all. I thought the great stuff was the fresh fruit, the rest was pretty much rubbish... hey but I finished it all.. Surly it's okay to use overnight bread for French toast, but the bread should be socked with egg, but no! You cut it open and it was just a plain piece of unattractive white bread with the smell of the overnight kitchen. The pan they used to make the toast was over heated and dirty, I could taste bacon and other meaty stuff too.. The berry sauce and the syrup were both tasteless, it could have been anything.. Over all the experience was pretty bad! BAD!!

grilled eeeeel

Yea, I love eels, grilled in particular.
Had the grilled eel lunch box in Sala Sala today, was O.K. A bit too sweet actually, I thought. Too much sauce, since the eel was already explosive of flavours there's not much need in adding excessive sauce for the rice. Was dessert rice really.
Miso soup a bit weird?? didn't seem all that fresh?? I prefer darker miso.
soft and tender super green green tea ice cream, alright eh. I feel like some crêpes...
Was good lunch though. Thank you, my quiche.

8/12 mongolian bbq

24.95$ buffet, worth it? NAH.

It's BBQ so lets just talk about meat, despite all, it's not like they have a whole range of impressive selections to add on the list. Beef, pork, chicken, and lamb, either plain or marinated. Seafood is pathetic, dry and obviously not fresh. bowls are too small to fit in vegis, quite a range of sauces but after the frying they all come out the same. I put 2 T-spoons of chilli sauce and sprinkle heaps of chilli on top, but it came out plain as haven. Is it Mongolian BBQ? IS IT?? it looks more teppan yakki to me!

O GOSH! I miss the mongolian bbq in taichung.

Double bday Gab&Yang

Yang and Gab were both born in June, and I happen to be here in Christchurch. HAHA, so we went to Fu-Shan, the fav. resto of all uni students, and had a feast. Dinner is yum-char & à la carte combined. Most of us had no idea how to order, and that was where Yang came in.

We also had 4 bottles of wines -- 2 red, 2 white. Forgot what dishes we had exactly, but everything was gone by the end of it. And I had a good time too.

It was freezing outside, so we just stayed and chatted. Went back to their little nest and had a cup of tea before going out again.

Then we went into town to try to get a drink. This was taken at Rootes. It was crap.

Zoom in Markus

20/06/2007
Hi hi, welcome to Christchurch. So we went to this korean resto in riccarton and had a few dishes: steamed kimchi dumplings, fried rice cake, bee-bae-bam(??), tofu stew, and kimchi stew. And thanks to everyone's effort, all's empty.
